Wangari’s Trees of Peace : A True Story from Africa

The book “Wangari’s Trees of Peace : A True Story” is authored and illustrated by Jeanette Winter. In the story, Wangari lived beside a mountain, she love to watch birds in the forest when she go gather the firewood for cooking, and she likes to help her mother to harvest crops. However, when she comes after six years of learning in America, she founds out her favourite forest and wheat fields were all destroyed. Wagari wants to do something, she wants to bring her home back. Wangari starts to planting seedlings and tiny trees, then she convinces other women in village to planting trees, all the womens in the village starts to planting trees, and there are more and more trees. Soon more people joined in to planting trees, but the cutting continuous, Wagati tried to  protect the forest, but the government men hit her with clubs and put her in jail. The women still plating trees, and finally, Wangari’s forest has returned. This story reminded me of those people who’s trying to protect the environment and planting trees, there are many mechanism that are doing that, but they haven’t been emphasized, for now, there is no mechanism for that are known by everyone. Also, there are many people that saying we should protect the environment and planting more trees and are just saying, they don’t actually recycle more or actually go planting trees. Hopefully one day, everyone will notice the importance of environment and really participate in helping.
