Enemy Pie- connections

The book “Enemy pie” is a picture book written by Derek Munson, the book is about a boy wants to get rid of his enemy, but then became friend with his enemy after they spend time together for the enemy pie to work. I have a lot of connections with the story, because I once have a friend and we both don’t like each other at the beginning. After a big quarrel, we have not talk to each other for two years. Although some reason were we were not in same class and don’t see each other often, but when we met at recess, we ignore each other as if we don’t know each other. After two years, we have been divided into same class and needs to see each other everyday, it’s little awkward to pretend she’s not exist, we decided to have a talk and reconcile. After we reconciled, she became my best friend, your opinion on some will change after you really get to know them. Many movies and books I have read had the similar meaning with this story, that both of main character don’t like each other at the beginning. However, they has been force to go on a adventure, after they have go through lots of things together, they became good friend. Finally, the part this story connected to world is that every person hand many side, people show different sides to different person.

Wanted: The Perfect Pet

The book “Wanted: The Perfect Pet” is written by Fiona Robertson, the book is about a boy who wants a pet. In the book, the boy Henry wants a perfect pet. Since dogs has fluffy ears, soft nose, and warm tongue, Henry thinks that dogs are perfect pet. Henry post an advertisement that says he wanted a dog on newspaper. A duck, who’s very lonely, saw the newspaper and thinks that if he became Henry’s pet, he wouldn’t be lonely anymore. The duck make a suit that makes him look like a dog, and he became Henry’s pet. However, Henry finds out that his pet is a duck, the duck’s suit broke, and the tail and ear on the suits falls off. The duck is panic and sad, he knew that Henry wants a dog, but he, he’s only a duck. Henry waits few seconds, then he picks up the duck and bring the duck back to the house, let the duck sit down and give him a cup of water. Henry lists a list of things that the duck can do and told the duck that maybe he’s not  a dog, but he is definitely not only a duck. At the end, Henry named the duck Spot and told Spot that maybe he is the perfect pet for Henry. This book remind me of my pet, it was a Chihuahua, he were almost as old as me, but he died last year, and his tail was cut off in an accident. In the beginning, I bought him many dog cloth with tail behind, but he felt suitable and sometimes the fake tail will stumble him, so we take it off. Many people use dress them self up to reach other people’s expectance, just like the duck in the story, but that’s not the real side of us, there is nothing wrong with admit our weak point, and we can improve it.

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colours and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract

“The Noisy Paint Box: The Colours and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract” is a real life book about Wassily Kandinsky written by Barb Rosenstock and illustrated by Mary Grandpre. In the story, an outstanding boy gets a gift from his aunt, a paint box. When the boy’s aunt teaching him how to mix colour, he heard different sounds in different colours. The boy starts make music of his own by moving brush on the paper. However, people don’t understand what his drawing and sent him to learn what they can understand. After many years of training, the abstract style of the boy’s paint became famous and the boy became a famous artist. The part where those adults ask Kandinsky what is his drawing supposed to be made me think of “The Little Prince”, that the part when the main character draw a picture of snake eating the elephant, no one know what he has draw and they think it is a hat. As people starts to growing up and learn more things, many of them starts to think and worried more, so they became not as creative as their childhood and lose their imagination.

The book is about a boy invented wind power and generates electricity for his country. This book brings me back to our science unit, Renewable Sources. Wind power is a renewable source, it is less harm to the environment, so governments encourage to use more renewable source. After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again

The book “After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again” is written and illustrated by Dan Santat, the story is about get over the fear. Our main character is an egg, his favorite thing to do is to sit on the wall and watch the bird flying think about his life after he became a bird. However, accident happened, he falls down. Since then, the egg is afraid of height, he never goes up to the wall again. One day, he made a small airplane that’s very similar with the birds, but accidents happen again, the egg’s airplane land on the wall. If the egg wants to get the plane, he has to up on the wall. The egg almost give up, but finally, he get over his fear and get back up again, at the end, the egg grow wings and became a bird. This  story make me think of the principle that many people have talked about and the people who are succeed. I think the birds represent the people who are succeed, and the wall means the course to be succeed, everyday the egg needs to climb the ladder to get up the wall, but one day he falls and give up, he became like other eggs who never climbed the wall. But when he get back up to the wall, he is different with other ordinary eggs because he still decided to climb ladder even he had once fallen and wounded.

There

The book “There” is a concept book written and illustrated by Marie – Louise Fitzpatrick. The book is about a little girl pondering what the future holds and consider about “there”, how could she gets there? How long will it take? Where is “there”? What will be there? How big will she be in there? The girl decides to find out, not today, because she has lots to do, but tomorrow, definitely. This book reminds me of a story I have read before, the story is about a girl who was also confused about her future and went on an adventure to find out what she want for her future. To me, I think the “there” in this book means future, the girl was confused to her future, she don’t know if the sky would still be blue, she don’t know what will she be like, she don’t know where is there. “There” is also a goal, she don’t know how long will it take to get there, how will she get there, and where is there. In the book, a question asked by the little girl, can she not go there and go to somewhere else instead?  This represent that she had changed her goal.

In the story, Wangari lived beside a mountain, she love to watch birds in the forest when she go gather the firewood for cooking, and she likes to help her mother to harvest crops. Wagari wants to do something, she wants to bring her home back. Wangari starts to planting seedlings and tiny trees, then she convinces other women in village to planting trees, all the womens in the village starts to planting trees, and there are more and more trees. Soon more people joined in to planting trees, but the cutting continuous, Wagati tried to  protect the forest, but the government men hit her with clubs and put her in jail. The women still plating trees, and finally, Wangari’s forest has returned. This story reminded me of those people who’s trying to protect the environment and planting trees, there are many mechanism that are doing that, but they haven’t been emphasized, for now, there is no mechanism for that are known by everyone. Also, there are many people that saying we should protect the environment and planting more trees and are just saying, they don’t actually recycle more or actually go planting trees. Hopefully one day, everyone will notice the importance of environment and really participate in helping.
